Signals is like a hundred lost broadcasts from an experimental laboratory. It oozes character whether spitting out audio debris or electronic purity from a range of rare, expensive or discarded analogue tone generators - sounds of interference, decaying circuits, buzzing motors, clicking dictaphones, whining VHS machines, crunchy distortion, harsh and soothing noise, feedback, detuned radio, alarms, neon buzz and broken digital glitches.
The laboratory also conjures multicoloured signals suggesting, banks of equipment blinking in the dark, nuclear test gear, futurist interfaces, UI nightmares, custom computers, insistent alarms and medical facilities. All made with rare synthesisers, like Buchla, Synton Fenix, Macbeth and Cwejman, genuine electroshock lab equipment and obscure hardware. It’s the radiophonic workshop but with 21st century sensibilities.
