TWISTED HARP delivers raw and gritty tones and turns them into a highly designed set of polished but unsettling soundscapes at 96khz, perfect to underpin horror, thriller, mystery, sci-fi and drama. When I found a badly treated Autoharp at a flea market, I had no idea it would become a richly diverse set of percussive and sustained textures derived from its worn surfaces and rusting strings. Its bashed exterior hid a rich seam of sonic gold.

With a nod to John Cage, I recorded a set of plucking, twanging, buzzing, rattling textures supported by a pleasing woody resonance. Adding a wooden box underneath the auto harp further extends the low end resonance with natural sustain.

Spaghetti, batteries, keys, coins, hooks, paper, matches and knives were carefully placed across the open strings. From that I performed short sequences, and manipulated them heavily. They are supplied both raw and designed, full of high harmonics for bringing full frequency depth to great sound moments.
